I have always been an artist. I enjoy the
challenge of
integrating color, movement, design,
understanding
and beauty to create art which inspires awareness,
inner
reflection and real connection with spirit. |
As an artist, I am consistently inspired by stories of
our Earth its people , especially those quiet voices
waiting
to share their wisdom with those who are patient and quiet
enough to hear. Thus, my artwork often
expresses my
feminine perspective because it is the story of the women
which is too often left untold
in our world. The
creative feminine spirit is powerful and can restore balance
to the current paradigm of
violence from which much of the earth currently suffers. I
am willing to be a voice for that peaceful change,
and thus my art is dedicated
with this intention.
My community service work has ranged from hospice (assistance in natural death) to midwifery
(assistance in natural birth). I respect the gateways of life and recognize the sacred power available when
people are respected and able to find acceptance in these times. This release enables peace to enter,
which can transform a challenge into an empowering and sacred rite of passage.
I have contemplated and studied aspects of the human spirit and life cycle from many perspectives;
studying courses with such teachers as the Dalai Lama in Dharmsala, India, Jeannine Parvati
Baker at Hygiea College, the Institute of Research in the Nature of Man, India, and Joan Halifax at
the Upaya Institute. I graduated from the National College of Midwifery and have worked at several
birth centers in the U.S. and abroad; and currently work with Mother Tree Birth Services .
I am the facilitator for The Artemis Institute which offers dynamic educational opportunities
in Women's Healing Arts.
Maintaining a healthy relationship with the earth and use of her resources is critical at this time in
the world. I am a founding board member of the non-profit environmental education center ,
Tryon Life Community Farm, where I have also served as education and community events coordinator.
This farm, located within an urban environment, provides education regarding skills, values, and paradigms
for holistic human integration into sustainable natural ecosystems. In the Spring of 2007 I participated
in Starhawk's Earth Activist Training and earned my Permaculture Certification, to deepen
my awareness of integrated earth systems.
I began my journey with rhythm and hand drums in 1991. This has evolved into a journey of peace,
passion and community. Everything alive moves to a rhythm, and to be a part of the creation of
that rhythm is alchemical- if done with positive intention and wisdom, the vibrations can be joyful and
healing. It has been an honor to share this voice with others. I have enjoyed facilitating groups and
classes; encouraging others to develop confidence, creativity, and community through the drum.
I have been profoundly transformed from spending time with people in many different areas of the world
including India, Africa, Europe, Central and South America. These journeys and opportunities continue
to influence my perspective and motivations.
After being raised in the Midwest, I have resided mostly in the high desert of the Southwest and the forested
valley of the Pacific Northwest of North America.
